So, you just heard the dreaded news; your child has a Life Threatening Food Allergy (LTFA) and you are wondering just where to begin.
Prepare to be inundated with information and well intentioned advice from every angle. At any point in time parents are faced with too many choices, too many options. In the end there is only one path taken, one road traveled. This is a one way road and if you ever have a moment of self doubt there is only one acceptable answer
“I made the best decision that I could with the information available to me at the time.”
Put this in your toolbox and reach for it often. Decide that you want to learn to make better decisions in the future and stop worrying about what almost happened. LTFA is a profound, terrifying experience, and not just for the parents. Mistakes will be made, accidents happen. Learn, live, keep moving forward. There is no alternative.
Ultimately, as a parent the responsibility to make informed decisions falls with you.
My journey started 49 years ago and back then some things were quite different, some better and some worse. My three children and my wife don’t have any food allergies of any sort. I have not been through the journey that you are embarking on as a parent, but I have been on that journey as a child, a teenager, a college student, a different kind of parent, and finally as an adult.
What I write might seem unsympathetic, but trust me, my heart breaks every time I hear about someone's life cut short ...

Thank you for documenting this. Very interesting to read about these episodes from an adult perspective. I am parenting a kid with PN/TN allergies. The stories are painful to read because of the content but your writing style is fresh and engaging. Thank you for sharing.

Parents need to hear all of it--good bad and ugly. Otherwise they may not respect the allergy for the health condition it is and the potential for grave circumstances if mismanaged. Thanks for writing.

I am reading and hearing more about this allergy all over the country and probably the world. Unless people like you are an advocate for better transparency, this problem will not change. I think the hand of God was even then in this. You are in the palm of His hand. Introducing Lisa into your life was also in the tapestry of His plan. My how He loves and takes care of you. Big hugs! I feel like you are living in my mind. I'm 37 and PN ANA, soy, peas, and some other legumes. I love reading your posts. I've been allergic my whole life and you have put so many of my feelings into words. Thank you!

In the last 6 months I have gone from internalizing it to sharing. There is only one reason for this transformation. Before I was told it was hopeless, now I have been given HOPE that my life can change. Hope is empowering.
Living with Peanut Anaphylaxis or other Life Threatening Food Allergies eBook Michael Sporer
This book is a revealing and honest account of what it is like to live with severe Anaphylaxis. I have a family member that has suffered with this his whole life and it is comforting and informative to read about how someone else has addressed this difficult issue. Michael is forthright and to the point. I think this book is not only for those that have food allergies, but also the "angels", as Michael calls them, the family members and loved ones who support those who have to deal with this day to day. Every environment and every meal can be a challenge. Thanks to Michael for sharing his story.Product details

Living with Peanut Anaphylaxis or other Life Threatening Food Allergies eBook Michael Sporer Reviews
Michael writes with great knowledge and insight about this very critical life threatening issue.
This important book is a must read for everyone. We are grateful that Michael took the time to write this book!
I was on an international flight and with the author, Michael Sporer. It was a stressful experience for him and his family,. I'm glad he wrote this book to help others that are living with Peanut Anaphylaxis. It's a quick easy read with a lot of good information and insight.
Stories are powerful and communicate much differently than pages of statistics. Michael tells his story to help others, particularly parents of kids who have life threatening food allergies. Read the book if you want to learn more. It can teach you how to save a life.
Michael writes a very compelling backstory. His honesty and openness is an essential element when communicating the severity of living with life-threatening allergies. What I like most about how he writes is that his focus is on EMPOWERING [food allergic] CHILDREN. He writes to parents of anaphylactic children "Your job is to keep them safe, but more importantly your job is to teach them how to be safe themselves so they can live the life that you dream they will have." This resonates with my belief system as a parent of a child with Celiac Disease and also complements my employer's (Aterica Digital Health) philosophy behind their invention of Veta -- a support system to guide anaphylactic children (and adults) through all ages and stages, with a focus on supporting and encouraging daily vigilance and good habits. Allergic and non-allergic families alike need to read this book!
Thank you for sharing your story. I hope you try again to get into an OIT program, it is my understanding that it is not an issue to have had IV fluids with the program now. My granddaughter is ANA to PN and we are living your story. I am thinking of writing a book from the Grandmother's perspective. If we can help anyone with a tip or two, it is worth it, in my opinion. I appreciated how you shared your fear, I wonder what my granddaughter is feeling inside. I know that the only thing she said in the ER when she was ANA was "I don't want to die". It pains me for anyone to experience a life of fear. I enjoyed your book, thank you again.
